A Taste Trip to South America at Bocas Grill

Bocas Grill has been serving up Latin fusion to Floridians since 2014 in an effort to take everyone on a taste trip to South America so we had to put it to the test. Had to start with a sampler which was serving up tostones which are fried plantains, tequenos which are a Venezuelan breaded and fried cheese stick, arepa which is a fried corn bread empanadas, and some blocks of guayanes cheese. This is a bunch of fried stuff but hey this does the trick! I love tequenos because to me it feels like an exotic mozzarella cheese stick which of course it isn’t but cheese in dough dipped in a garlic aioli sauce touches a special place in my heart.

We are moving on up to entrees here and you already know we went hard because that’s how we do especially when @thelunchrotation and @jeewlian are out with us. First up was the Parilla which is chicken, sausage, sirloin, cheese, arepas, and a fat bowl of avocado. I love this because realistically this could feed 2 or 3 people no problem and everyone gets a taste of a few things.

Next up is what the squad got, a pork belly patacon, a steak cachapa, and ravioli. So a patacon is like a burger or arepa but uses fried plantains instead of buns, a cachapa is an arepa but with a sweeter fried dough and well ravioli is just that but using the kind of fixing that you get at a latin fusion place as opposed to the traditional. So the cachapa was made with lomo which is a Peruvian style of cooking steak and the tomatoes and onions that accompany it give it a great flavor blast. For the pork belly just look at those thick grilled pork belly bits looking ripe for the eating with that block of cheese on top between two well formed tostones. Picanha sirloin steak, the Angel falls cocktail with traditional Venezuelan rum, some churros and a smoked brownie rounded out this foodie adventure and this gallery so check them out for yourselves and let us know what you think!
