Taking time to Taco Bout Border Grill

As some of you may know I was raised in the Los Angeles area so to me good Mexican food is a taste of home. Living in Orlando now we do have some impressive taco places but this blog is not about the $15 goose breast from Mt Olympus topped with salt from the deepest mines and sauce made by Remy from Ratatouille, not that there is no room for the places that take liberty with their ingredients we adore the innovation but this is an ode to the kind of place that does staple food well. Flautas, tamales, burritos, tacos, a variety of platters, a small enough menu to keep it simple with enough options to still have you making some tough decisions. Border Grill Fresh Mex was one of the first authentic style Mexican restaurants I was introduced to here in Orlando and they were my godsend, in fact I still make it there once every week or so. Their tacos come in supreme with the lettuce, tomatos, sour cream and the lot or the traditional Mexican tacos with just cilantro and onion (I drown mine in habanero sauce if you can take the heat).

Their chimichanga is another favorite stuffed to the brim with carne asada and drowning in their queso served with refried beans and rice. Recently one of my immediate go to burritos has been their green burrito (burrito mojado with verde) which is a dripping burrito. Let me be clear, I am not here for your manageable burritos, if it doesn’t scare me at least a little then maybe I should have ordered something else. This bad boy comes stuffed with the meat of your choice, lettuce, rice, beans, avocado, and then absolutely smothered in salsa verde and cheese. If you are like me and you are a sucker for that which is not complicated but delicious and super affordable I beyond recommend checking this place out. Family owned and operated cranking out some of the best Mexican food in Orlando.
